Sample Preparation

(THIS IS THE Rowitch Cryostat relocated from Pod D in December 2025)

CM3050S cryostat.  Please read the "Cryostat Expectations" document with safety reminders attached at the right.

Bring your own specimen disc, blades, brushes, OCT and 100% ethanol for cleanup. Leave the bench next to the cryostat clean of your materials and spilled OCT when you leave. Do not leave materials behind. Dispose of all sharps in a proper hard-sided biohazard sharps container.

A limited supply of IRM discs are available for check out from Cassandra (desk in 912E).  We regret that the procedure has changed due to the disappearance of the shared discs from all the cryostats.

The parafin embedding instrument is located in the Pod C histology room.  Users are asked to keep the area clean and remember to empty the parafin waste drawer before it overflows.  Please contribute materials.  Contact David Scheel if you have questions, concerns.

Leica Microtome with Foot Pedal is located in the  Pod C Histology Room.

Please contact David Scheel for questions and orientation.  Bring your own supplies. Always use your own blade and dispose of it in a sharps container. Clean the room when you are finished.

This procedure room in Pod C 922G is available for Pod C occupants to reserve. Note that the CO2 tank is shared by all labs. Contact your lab manager before it's empty. Please leave the space cleaner than you found it and contact your lab manager if you have any questions.

Clean the rotor after use.

Be gentle shutting the door, do not let it bang.

Do not attempt to open the door until the vacuum is completely released (all hissing stops).

Note: The refrigeration is not working well. Don't spin longer than 15 min. Log all runs in the paper logbook at the instrument in addition to scheduling on the calendar.
